Viruses: Viruses – A virus is a small program that reproduces itself. A virus might attach itself to a program such as a table. Worms – A worm is a small program that uses computer networks and security holes to replicate. A copy of the worm scans the network for another machine that has a particular vulnerability. It copies itself to the new machine using the security hole, then starts replicating from there as well. Trojan horses – A Trojan horse is simply a computer program. The program claimed that one thing (it may claim to a game or a “free” piece of software to be), but the damage when you run (can it erase your entire hard drive). Trojan horses have no way to replicate automatically. They are called Trojan horses, as they are sometimes disguised as a normal computer programs. Spyware: Spyware is any software that secretly gathers user information through an Internet connection without the user’s knowledge, usually defined for promotional purposes. Spyware applications are typically can be downloaded from the Internet as a hidden component of freeware or shareware programs, bundled, but it should be noted that the majority are not shareware and freeware applications with spyware. Once installed, the spyware monitors activity on the Internet and transmits that data in the background to someone else. Spyware can also gather information through e-mail addresses and even passwords and credit card numbers. Spyware often causes pop-up ads on the screen of the user, without user knowledge or consent. These pop-ups can be quite a headache, and spyware often slow crawl to a slow computer. Because spyware exists as independent executable programs, they have the ability to monitor keystrokes, scan files on the hard drive, snoop other applications, such as chat programs or word processors, install programs to read other spies, cookies, change the default home page in the browser always forwarding the information to the author, who is with spyware to sell it for advertising / marketing purposes or information to anyone.
